Welcome to Scouts

Scouts are held on a Tuesday evening from 7:00pm until 8:30pm. During this time we run an active and exciting programme starting with the flag ceremony, when we join together to say hello and remember what it means to be a scout. The age range of scouts is between 10½ and 14. On reaching the age of 14 they will then move into Explorer Scouts (14 - 18).

Leaders, Rowena Kidd is our scout leader she is assisted by Brian Cosgrove, Clair Hammond, Jon Webb, Gareth Hacking & David Brett. In Local scouting, there are no paid leaders, everything is done voluntarily. We welcome any additional support parents can offer us and may occationaly ask for help on an evening or w/e. If you can help you will need to complete a CRB and a scout association form to become registered.

Subs are paid by standing order and are £7 a month. We also ask you to fill in a gift aid form so that the group can claim back the tax you have paid, if for some reason you stop paying tax, you need to let us know. Once a gift aid form is filled in it covers you for the whole of your child’s say at the group.

Investiture this is when children formally join scouts. It happens once they have an understanding about scouts, the law and the promise. They will then be presented with their group badges and the necker. To be invested they will need to have a scout uniform, which is a green shirt and navy blue activity trousers (the trousers are optional). The uniform can be bought from Outdoor (the scout shop) on Deansgate or MCS Stores on Fog Lane.

Finally please tell us if there is anything you feel that we ought to know about your child e.g. they may have difficulty reading or may be uncoordinated or suffer from asthma. They will be in our care for the duration of scouts so it is important that we know as much about them as possible. Don’t forget that if you move house or change phone number we need to know.
